Editorial: Midterms and more Hopper - Gas

The Midterms will no doubt produce surprises but if you believe in democracy - this was the last chance to exercise your rights as James Campion points out. The Republican's tell blatant lies about stolen elections and everyone wants to believe them but the US economy is stronger than it has been in years thanks to the Democrats. But no one is interested in the facts. The results so far mean that the Republicans have regained control of Congress by a narrow margin and the Senate is a toss up. But I hope stays Democratic. Has the power of Trump to mesmerise his base peaked? Ron DeSantis would probably say so ...

Am I the only one who thinks Elon Musk just threw away $44 Billion on Twitter? A masterclass in how to devalue an 'investment' that will be talked about in business studies down the ages.

* This month Hacks is late due to me being stuck in hospital. Getting out after an operation is tough. No one can explain why it takes 8 hours to get a discharge print out, but does explain why there are no beds available. I had my fifth stent inserted but the procedure went drastically wrong and it didn't quite go all the way in, the wire got stuck in my arm and they made such a mess of my groin I nearly bled to death (they didn't stop my blood thinners). I somehow survived and then had a tyre blowout on the M11 on the way home.
I have decided to take a short break in France next week whilst I still can.
PS: My condolences to our veteran contributor Martin Green whose wife passed away this week.

*My new mystery novel The Book of Ashes is now published. Download now.
