Welcome: March Editorial - Worried Yet? It's a Trump World after all ...
*April Ed will appear once we know the April Fool Tarrifs on Liberation Day!
 |
As winter turns to spring we naturally begin to feel more optimistic but as inflation rises again and tariffs threaten world trade we should enjoy the blossom whilst it lasts as a reminder that everthing is transitory - the trick is to look beyond the present and learn to protect yourself. |
Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs. Economic genius at work. Try being a farmer right now deciding what to grow. Will there be an export market or not? Capricious tariff threats are a crazy way to run a country. Now it's 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports worldwide, then in April all cars and trucks - raise your bets gentlemen for the Trump Slump...
You probably witnessed the pile-on by Trump and Vance on Zelensky in the Oval office. It was a total disgrace but Trump is all in on Putin's side now and Europe needs to wake up - NATO is over and so is the American shield. For a man who claims to want peace this is the surest way to end up with war. Zelensky must have been encouraged by his reception in London and European leaders support for a peace plan but it will be a tough road ahead for him now. Will Russia will play its delaying game and keep killing as many Ukrainians as they can.
So who do we blame for all the chaos at the White House?
The voters who didn’t bother to read Project 25? Well yes, obviously.
Elon Musk essentially bought the presidency for $270 million. And Trump is more than willing to be merely the figurehead signing all Stephen Miller's decrees that will change the world forever. America’s pivot to partnering Russia was written in the stars from the first term of office. Ironically Russia has so little to offer Trump, it makes little sense other than raw autocracy. The Russian army is not the threat everyone thought it was, Ukraine bravely proved that. As for the future of Ukraine now Trump has switched sides? Who knows. The same goes for Europe. Can they get their heads around the fact that they must learn to defend themselves without the USA.
Musk is the real danger to democracy and do not be surprised when Trump stands for a third time and a supine congress rubber stamp it before he turns around and abolishes Congress (see: Germany 1st February 1933 when their new leader dissolved the Reichstag).
The Federal workers being laid off in their thousands will struggle to find jobs and pay their mortgages.70 thousand Armed Service Vets thrown out of their jobs. Come the summer hurricanes and floods there will be no FEMA to come to the rescue and the quality of air, water and everything else will decline as the EPA is also abolished. Add vaccines to that list. And don't expect the FBI to comes to the rescue. That organisation is toast. You might even approve of the destruction of Federal governance and especially the IRS, but when its gone it will be very hard to restore it, if there is ever another chance to do it.
America could rapidly descend into protected enclaves where the rich live and outside it a lawless rest of the population will live with little access to healthcare or a quality of life (or even insurance) where crime will soar. (Invest in private jails now). (See Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson written back in 1992)
One wonders what will America look like in just six months?

Her therapist is deeply skeptical this could be true and worries for her sanity. But all she can think of is, why is this happening to her? And how can she stop them?
