How Web Writing Work Can Pay for Long Term Travel
Sean Lee
Believe it or not, it’s possible to trade in your life as an American office worker for a life of perpetual travel in some of the world’s most exciting places.

And no, you won’t have to sell a kidney, become a smuggler, or win the lottery. As an educated person living in the first world, you have a lot more wealth and opportunity than you probably know or take advantage of. If you work in many creative fields (writing, designing, development, etc.), it’s becoming increasingly possible to ply your trade from...anywhere! This realization is setting people free from the 9 to 5, and sending them all around the globe, paying for their extended travel with work they do online. Even if all you do is write (like the real flesh and blood person who wrote this post), you can make this work for you. Here’s how and why.
Your Currency Rules! Let’s say you live in the United States of England. Sure, people might complain about the value of the Dollar or the Euro, but both of these currencies are doing much better than many of their competitor currencies elsewhere. If you take your salary into Thailand or Tunisia or Argentina, you’ll quickly see how much further it extends. If you’re able to make first world dollars while living in the developing world, you’ll find that your standard of living can often double or triple. If you’re committed to living simply, the sky’s the limit on the places you can visit and the experiences you can discover. Currency coasting is a real thing, and even if you do it for just a couple of weeks, it’s really something to try.
Communication Technology is Advanced! The internet is a powerful thing, literally connecting places all over the globe with cables and high frequency wave signals. There are few places you can go in the world where you are truly off the grid. If that’s your ambition, this might not be the post for you. If living on the grid in beautiful and stimulating places with interesting people is your ambition, this is the post for you. Even if you are in Yemen, the NobelApp can have you communicating with friends, family, and clients back home. Maybe you get your writing money from a colorful blog chronicling your travels, or maybe you carry clients with you from your native day job. Whatever your strategy, communicating with these people from abroad is becoming increasingly doable.
That’s the gist of it. Find steady work you can do from anywhere. Find interesting places in international spaces, where the cost of living is significantly lower than that which you are used to back home. Go there. Do your work. Enjoy your life. This author manages to achieve this lifestyle as nothing more than an everyday web and copywriter. You may be able to achieve ever greater living standards if you have skills that translate into more money. Start small with a week or two spent traveling and working. If it works for you, you may want to make this a full time gig!
