The
story is familiar, All children, except one, grow up, but
Southamptons Mayflower theatre offers a new setting.
As soon as the first bars of the score were played everyone in the audience
was transfixed. The bright colours of the stage immediately demanded
your attention and the energy that came from the chorus told you that
you were in for a good night. The initial dance reinforced the feeling
of the theatre, with the liveliness that was projected from it.
This show was well choreographed. I particularly liked how the children,
leaving for Neverland, were linked to their harnesses without the audience
noticing.
Geoffrey Hughes (Heartbeat) as Smee and Keith Simmons as
Starkey brought a natural humour to the performance. Their
ad-libbing provided many laughs and encouraged the audiences participation.
Children will enjoy the attack as they are fully involved.
This is wonderful light-hearted entertainment perfect for the Christmas
holidays.
