FROM FAST FILM PRODUCER TO FAST FILM WINNER:
24 HOUR FILM CONTEST PRODUCER WINS QUICK FLICK CHALLENGE

COWBOY, a romantic sex comedy directed by 24 Hour Film Contest producer Kryshan Randel, came away with first prize during February's 48 hour film contest Quick Flick Challenge.
The contest required teams to conceive, shoot, edit and deliver a 5-minute short film in 48 hours. The booty: over $1000 in cash for the winners, in addition to various film industry products and services. At the Valentines Day screening, Randel's team won half of that cash - $500 - in addition to several other industry prizes.

"After years of producing my own fast film event and being inspired by the success of other filmmakers, it was great to be on the other side of things," said Randel. "Winning this event has further inspired me to spend much more time making films, as I'm sure The 24 Hour Film Contest has done for many of its winners." The judging panel comprised of CBC editor Scott Winlaw, writer/director Glynis Whiting, arts reporter Diane Strandberg and sculpture artist BW Finley. Winlaw was also one of the organizers of Quick Flick Challenge, and was inspired to start the event after winning an Audience Choice Award in a 24 Hour Film Contest in 2002.

COWBOY tells the story of a cowboy who attempts to break up with his girlfriend, and the sexy tricks she employs to win him back. In addition to director Kryshan Randel, COWBOY features cast members Victoria Bidewell, James Lafazanos and Roxy Doctor, writer Tracy Smith, producer Cliff Prowse, DOP Jason Pope, editor Greg Ng, location sound mixer Kaare Andrews, assistant director Tammy Bannister, and a lively score by Ng.

Next up for Kryshan Randel is producing his newest fast film event The Great Canadian Commercial Contest (www.thegreatccc.com), to be held on April 15. The event is presented by Mirrorball Productions, PunchLine Entertainment and his own 24 Hour Film Contest, for which he has produced 11 contests over the past 3 years. Randel is also writing several short films and a feature film.
COWBOY will be viewable online at the Internet magazine www.somethingcool.ca by the fourth week in February.
