Sam Editorial: June 2018

May you live in 'interesting' times as the Chinese proverb says... . I am not so sure about that. Everything, as ever, is about Trump (See James Campions latest on the great Kim v Trump meet) basically destroying the world as you know it. The latest wheeze is to impose 25% tarrifs on steel and 10% on aluminium made by his allies. This will inevitably lead to American cars costing more and jobs to go all over the world in the metal industries. It could also lead to the Chinese dumping steel on Europe and literally ending the steel industry in some countries. As I suspected the 'summit' or 'process' with North Korea achieved nothing except hot air and platitudes. North Korea on the other hand got a great deal starting with the end of joint war games with the USA and South Korea - long an objective of China, the real puppet master in all of this. Everyday we are exposed to Trump spokespeople espousing total nonsense to justify every stupid thing he does. To think we may have another seven years of this brings one to despair. Perhaps Robert De Niro can run for president instead? That might be interesting. You talking to ME?

May disappeared in a blizzard of hospital visits to a very sick sister. Managed to pick up a nasty cough there and generally feel quite aggrieved about the whole month. Now, having admitted they can't fix my sister they sent her home. This may be a disaster. Brothers are notoriously bad at tending to sick sisters except in soppy John Green movies. Luckily my sister Jane is made of steel and is showing remarkable signs of recovery. Although how would you feel if you hadn't pooped in 47 days? I fear the worst.

Meanwhile one of my best friends, Lionel has survived a heart attack in France and you should read his account in case you had any illusions that health care was better there than our NHS.

James Campion is still trying to get Weed made legal in New Jersey and James Skinner reports from Spain where a former Government minister has been jailed for 33 years for stealing 50 Million Euros! And you wonder why people have lost faith in politicians - worse he's not the only one - more convictions will follow this week following the fall of PM Rajoy from power. Will the Catalans get a more favourable hearing from Prime Minister Sanchez? Will there be another election in Spain soon? And as we celebrate the 65th Goverment of Italy since 1946 you can bet there will soon be another there. Interesting times indeed.

Sixty years after the end of everything the city of Bluette survives, controlled by a malignant sect.  A place where men rule, girls receive no education and are matched at 16 to the highest bidder.  No one is ever permitted to leave the city and outside is a murderous wasteland of despair. Orphans Kruge and Jeyna have been devoted to each other through all the years of terror in this harsh regime and sworn never to be parted.  But the beautiful Jeyna has been betrayed by the Warden. Kruge has been swiftly banished to the Scraps, under the control of the Keeper.
