Casa Deep Woods is a wonderful resort which is at an altitude of 3000 ft. and is located in the Mudumalai jungles of the Nilgiris near Ooty. The five-acre property has a virgin forest and a mountain stream running through it. "Since the concept was to give the customers, a back-to-nature vacation and a real feel of the jungle, the design of the resort had to adapt itself to the jungle. Therefore, we avoided cutting of trees and located the cottages close to the stream, to make it possible for customers to enjoy wildlife. For the interiors comfort was uppermost in our minds in the living spaces," says Dev Reddy the owner of the resort who is also an architect by profession.

The cottages are very elegant even though no particular style of architecture has been followed. What’s exciting are the open-air bathrooms which, while being utterly private, lets you, bathe under a blue sky or the stars at night, adding a touch of romance to your stay. Simply furnished, the high ceiling keeps the interior spaces airy and cool. Clay floor tiles and Mangalore roof tiles define the living spaces in the cottages. Earthy colours for the furnishing too gives the final ethnic feel to the place. The combination of carved granite columns, marble, and stone floors, angled walls, carved rose wood columns in the porch gives a traditional yet modern look.

A perfect place for the family to chill, the resort features extensive indoor and out door games. recreation activities which include Jeep safaris, night jeep trails, Hiking, Trekking, kayaking, bird watching, a visit to a tribal village, golfing, fishingamong other out door activities. Ooty is just 26KMS away (about 45 minutes) from the resort so a day trip there is not too difficult.

The resort is geared towards the jungle experience. Activities like the 5 hour Sholur Trail (an altitude gaining trek) or the Anekatti Explorer Trek a canyon trail require some physical conditioning, but smaller treks can be organized on request with experienced guide. What nice is Dev has planned the cottages around the gurgling stream. The resort also features a barbecue deck along the stream. Sit around enjoying a barbeque and if you are lucky Dev might tell you some interesting tales about how tuskers in ‘must’ have come into the property but have not harmed anyone as no one harms them!

The kitchen is totally handled by his wife Nageena and so be prepared for some great home bred hearty cuisine. Nageena has years of hotel experience and so the entire resort is run on professional lines which is surprising when one thinks of the place which is almost cut off from civilization.

The resort is located 250KMS from Bangalore; 100KMS from Mysore (nearest Railhead) and Coimbatore (nearest airport) is just 120 KMS away
